Location: Island Beach State Park is a preserved barrier island in Ocean County, NJ, that protects a number of natural shoreline and nearshore habitats. The park contains close to ten miles of sandy beach, an extensive shoreline along Barnegat Bay, dense maritime forests, rolling sand dunes, and tidal marshes. Island Beach is also home to foxes, ospreys, other wildlife, and more than 400 species of plants. Theme: The theme for this ASB Summer Trip is environmental protection. Possible volunteer activities will be largely based outdoors and might range from phragmites control to bayside cleanup, assisting with Ocean Fun Day, landscaping, and gardening. Dates: Tentatively May 14-18, 2008 (Wed-Sun) [Finals end on May 13 and students have to move out of on-campus housing by noon on May 14] Accommodation: We will be renting a beautiful beach house in Seaside Park, which is a residential neighborhood a short drive away from Island Beach State Park.
